Project Overview
The Cedar Bayou Watershed, which forms the border between urban Harris County, a primarily rural section of Chambers County, and part of Liberty County, covers approximately 173 square miles and drains into the Galveston Bay system. Over the last decade, Cedar Bayou was added to the 303(d) list of impaired waterways due to elevated levels of bacteria, dioxins and PCBs in fish tssue, and impaired ecological communities. As a result of local concern for water quality, H-GAC, Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (Soil Board), and local community partners came together to create the Cedar Bayou Watershed Partnership. It is the mission of the Partnership to develop a Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) for the Cedar Bayou watershed through:

- Maintain or improve riparian corridor buffer zones
- Address urban sources of bacteria through pet waste management and stormwater efforts
- Address wastewater sources through OSSF remediation and sanitary sewer rehabilitation
- Support regional efforts to address PCB and dioxin contamination in the greater Galveston Bay System
