san Bernard WPP.
Project Overview
The San Bernard River Watershed is over 125 miles long and covers approximately 900 square miles. Due to high bacteria levels, this watershed was added to the 303(d) list of impaired waterways in 2009, with portions designated unsuitable for recreational activities. Additionally, excessive nutrients and low dissolved oxygen levels have also been found which may negatively affect fish and other aquatic life. To address high bacteria levels and other issues, H-GAC, along with key community stakeholders and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), developed the San Bernard Watershed Protection Plan (WPP), which is expected to be approved in late 2013. Current Status H-GAC is preparing to release an Executive Summary of the WPP for distribution within the watershed in late November / early December 2013. |
