Highland / Marchand Bayou WPP.
Project Overview
In 2008, the Highland / Marchand Bayou was listed on the 303(d) list of impaired waterways due to decreased levels of dissolved oxygen and for elevated bacteria levels, ultimately posing environmental and public-health concerns when it failed to aquatic-life and contact recreation uses. The project area, which is 12.5 miles from Galveston Bay, covers roughly 120 square miles and is located in Galveston County. In 2009, several communities in Galveston County established the Moses-Karankawa Bayous Alliance to begin addressing high bacteria levels through a Watershed Protection Plan. Current Status
The Alliance, and its stakeholders, have completed an initial draft of the Watershed Protection Plan, and will be continuing their work in the comming months.
